T&TP Meetings and Workshops
Policy for Support

Related information

a.       Activities to be supported. The committee agreed that the following types of activities could be supported.

1.       T&TP expert meetings on timely and important topics. Full support would be offered to participants.

2.       T&TP hosted meetings. Support would be offered to assist organisation and meeting expenses together with, if necessary, travelling expenses for visiting speakers.

3.       Planning meetings and workshops for field campaigns and intercomparisons, hosted by T&TP. Support would be offered to assist organisation and meeting expenses together with, if necessary, travelling expenses for participants.

4.       Attendance by T&TP partners at other meetings where it is valuable to T&TP that the project should be represented.

b.       Requirements for consideration for T&TP support. The committee agreed that organisers seeking T&TP support for a meeting or workshop should provide the following in good time for a decision to be taken.

1.       Title, place, date, name/s and affiliation/s of the organiser/s

2.       Brief description giving the scientific aims, the contribution to ACCENT-T&TP, and the proposed structure of the meeting/workshop.

3.       A statement of the expected scientific outcome and the specific deliverables. A required deliverable for all supported events is a report, suitable for publication within ACCENT.

4.       A budget, itemising the proposed expenditure and distinguishing clearly between the likely total amount to be spent and amount of support requested from T&TP. Also include contributions from any other sources of support.

c.       T&TP Decision. The decision on support will be taken by the Coordinator, taking into account the advice of the steering committee. To enable decisions to be taken promptly, the committee's advice may be sought at the normal meetings or by email.

d.       Level of Support. Although the committee will endeavour to meet the requirements of the proposal, the final level of support will be determined by the committee. Costs normally supported include meeting costs, special speakers and travel and accommodation for selected participants. The committee will normally only authorise the following costs for travel:

From within the same country 300 ¬ £200
From European countries 450 ¬ £300
From outside Europe 750 ¬ £500 $950

e.       The financial support will normally only be made available after the meeting when the required meeting report has been received by the Coordinator.

Appendix: Contribution to the aims of ACCENT and T&TP

Any report should include an explicit mention of the current aims of T&TP and ACCENT to which the activity has contributed.

The present objectives of T&TP (2005) are:

·               To focus the efforts of European scientists in the experimental and theoretical study of the impact of emissions at a range of scales from the continents on the composition of the atmosphere of the Northern Hemisphere including the impact on regional air quality and climate.

·               To coordinate planning activities for future experiments involving European scientists using European platforms designed to study T&TP, and to interact with other international scientists in Asia and North America in the wider aspects of this activity.

·               To add value to national programmes by co-ordination of experiments, results and analyses.

·               To provide policy relevant synthesis and integration of scientific results on the impact of transport and transformation of pollution, photooxidants and MePOPs.

·               To provide an interface to user groups on the issues of the impact of transport and transformation of pollution on a range of scales.

·               To disseminate results on the issue of T&TP.

·               To develop a structure for the broad European activities in T&TP

The aims of ACCENT are:

The overall goals of ACCENT are to promote a common European strategy for research on atmospheric composition sustainability, to develop and maintain durable means of communication and collaboration within the European scientific community, to facilitate this research and to optimise the interactions with policy-makers and the general public.
