Objectives

Training of scientists is a key issue in many of the ACCENT tasks and subprojects. This task specifically wants to bring attention to the wide scientific issues tackled in ACCENT via education and training, and to provide individuals and/or teams with a diversity of skills and competencies, including new didactical approaches, the use of new learning technologies and the ability for interdisciplinary co-operation. This will be achieved by an educational and training programme aiming at specified target groups, and a global (virtual) network for young scientists.

ACCENT will serve European institutions of higher education and research training, as well as the corporate world that aim at enhancing the body of know-how by research. The Network will play a co-ordination role in Europe and beyond in the transfer of know-how, skills and competencies to produce creative and innovative force for the labour market and to create new labour in emerging markets. With the fast move towards a knowledge-based society, new didactical approaches and learning technologies will be used.

Education and training in ACCENT will spread excellence by blended learning programmes (i.e., the combination of conventional classroom teaching with e-learning) and staff exchange programmes. In this context, educational opportunities to increase and support the use of Information Technology (IT) in teaching and learning will be enhanced.

The task will address a wide variety of target groups including young scientists who seek research training in the ACCENT field, university and school teachers, and lower graduates aged 12-17 years. Efforts will also be undertaken to serve the co rporate world in order to promote an open and positive attitude towards ACCENT issues. Special attention will be paid to representatives of the newly associated countries and development countries, as well as to female scientists.
