Workshops & events on emissions

Oléron Summer School 2007 - Ile d'Oléron, France, September 2007 This summer school on 'Surface emissions and prediction of atmospheric composition changes' was held in Ile d'Oléron, France, in september 2007. This GEIA summer school was funded by the ACCENT project, the CNRS, the ESF (European Science Foundation), the NSF (American National Science Foundation), and the ADEME. The program, participants list and participants abstracts are available on the Summer School web page.

GEIA 2006 conference - Paris, Nov-Dec 2006 The GEIA 2006 open conference was held in Paris, in November-December 2006. The presentations and discussions were addressing the following issues/themes :

The program, presentations, participants list, and report are available on the GEIA conference web page.

ACCENT workshop - Toulouse, December 2005 : Biomass burnt and Satellite Observations (BBSO) In the determination of emission inventories for savannas, forests and agricultural fires, two different spatial products are currently used : the distribution of fire pixels and the distribution of burnt areas. The main purpose of the workshop is to bring together specialists of fire products and user groups of these products to find a coherence between the different estimations.

ACCENT workshop - Paris, April 2005 : Database of driving variables for emissions The GEIA (Global Emissions Inventory Activity) project of IGBP and the ACCENT European network are planning to develop a database of driving variables, which are needed to quantify surface emissions of atmospheric compounds. This activity will be strongly linked with the development of the IGBP atlas that has started a few months ago. The goal of this workshop is to define the first steps of this project, the data which will be included in the database, as well as the visualization tools we need to develop, together with tools for the manipulation of the data.

ACCENT workshop - Paris, January 2005 : Integration of global/regional emissions The goal of this small workshop is to define the first steps of the integration of existing global and regional databases with a focus on the consistency between trace gases and aerosols emissions at different temporal and spatial scales. Joint GEIA/ACCENT workshop - Paris, June 2004 An open workshop for GEIA and ACCENT was held in Paris, at the CNES headquarters. The presentations and discussions during the workshop were related to the following topics :

  • Past/current emissions
  • Future emissions
  • Regional/local emissions - Emission from megacities
  • Vegetation canopy / terrestrial / oceanic emissions / deposition
  • The use of remote sensing
  • Natural emissions of aerosols
  • Biomass burning emissions

The main goal of this workshop is to have extensive discussions aimed at reviewing existing research within several topics and at developing a preliminary plan for the GEIA/ACCENT activities.
