16th International Conference on Heavy Metals in the Environment

The need of understanding the effects of contamination  of atmospheric, water and soil ecosystems by heavy metals released from natural and anthropogenic sources has gained a growing attention during the last two decades at both policy and scientific level. Substantial progress have been made in emission sources characterization, development of analytical methods, evaluation of transport and deposition process at different spatial scales, understanding exposure patterns and risk for human health, and developing remediation technologies and environmental policy frameworks.

The transfer of knowledge from scientific community to policy makers and stakeholders has been reinforced in the framework of leading international programs (i.e., UNEP, IGBP, GEO/GEOSS) and conventions (i.e., UNECE-LRTAP, OSPARCOM, HELCOM, Basel) and a number of on-going international projects are aimed to link spatial and temporal patterns of heavy metals transport and deposition to emission sources for different socio-economic scenarios of environmental pressure.

On behalf of the International Steering Committee I am delighted to invite you to present the outcome of your research activity at the 16^th International Conference on Heavy Metals in the Environment that will be held in Rome on 23-27 September 2012 (http://ichmet16.iia.cnr.it/ ).


Contributors are encouraged to submit the outcome of their  research for ORAL and POSTER presentations. We have identified major topics that you may contribute to and also have considered the possibility of organizing special sessions on major emerging topics that you will find in detail in the conference web site.

Submitted abstracts (up to 4 pages) may be proposed during the conference for publication as extended papers in special issues of highly ranked international peer-reviewed journals.

Important deadlines:

Abstract to be submitted by 15 April 2012
Notification to authors of abstract acceptance by 1st June 2012.
Preliminary program by 15th July 2012
Publication of E-Proceedings by 25 August 2012.
