Dear colleagues,
For the past two years Peter Warneck and I have been working on a new textbook entitled "The Atmospheric Chemist's Companion" which was published by Springer last month. It is a comprehensive compendium of data tables encompassing all sorts information relevant to atmospheric scientists. We very much hope that the community will provide us plenty of feedback on this first edition so that we can improve and expand the work in future. Thus any advertising would be helpful. If any further information is required please do not hesitate to contact me.

ACTRIS Call for Associated Partners

We would like to announce that the ACTRIS call for Associated Partners is now open.

Associate Partners in the project are expected to participate actively in the network and help to achieve its objectives:

• of providing long-term high-quality data relevant to climate and air quality research throughout a European ground-based network of stations equipped with advanced atmospheric probing instrumentation for aerosols, clouds and short-lived gas-phase species,
• of strengthening high-quality collaboration and enhance training of young scientists and researchers from eastern European and non-EU developing countries in the field of atmospheric observation,
• of promoting the development of new technologies for atmospheric observation of aerosols, clouds and trace gases through close partnership with EU companies. The role of Associated Partners will be an important contribution towards the goals and activities of ACTRIS. At the same time the Associated Partners will be able to benefit from a set of activities that ACTRIS will undertake within its networking, joint research and transnational access and service activities (e.g., monitoring of long-term atmospheric variables and data dissemination, access to facilities, workshops, training of researchers, web-based information, etc.).

ACCENT-TROPOSAT-2 Remote Sensing  Book Published

please note that a Call for Proposals for Trans-National Access activities within the ACTRIS project is continuously open.

ACTRIS (Aerosol Clouds, and Trace gases Research InfraStructure Network) is an Integrated Infrastructure project funded for 4 years by the European Commission which started on 1st of April 2011 under the 7th Framework Programme. As a coordinated network, ACTRIS aims at integrating European ground-based stations equipped with advanced atmospheric probing instrumentation for aerosols, clouds, and short-lived gas-phase species. ACTRIS has the essential role to support building of new knowledge as well as policy issues on climate change, air quality, and long-range transport of pollutants.

One of the key activities of ACTRIS are the transnational access (TNA) activities, providing an opportunity to scientists to access eleven ground-based facilities for atmospheric research within Europe (see enclosed flyer).

ACTRIS TNA is free of charge to scientific users of the ACTRIS stations to conduct their research, to test instruments, and perform measurement campaigns. Support to users of the facility includes:

• administrative and logistical support (e.g., customs, transport)
• free use of the infrastructure
• technical and scientific support
• specific training
• limited financial support The objectives of the TNA activity are to strengthen collaboration within Europe, to access high quality information and services, and to train young scientists in the field of atmospheric observation, and to promote scientific excellence in less-favoured regions in Europe.

TNA proposals are accepted at any time from any eligible researcher or research group. Selection and evaluation of the proposals will be performed by a TNA panel.
